The Week in Weed: August 23, 2019

Welcome back to The Week in Weed, your Friday appear at what’s taking place in the globe of legalized marijuana.

We’ll get started with New Jersey, which you will doubtless recall failed to legalize marijuana earlier this year.  They are now expanding hemp production.  The new law will permit CBD in meals (each human and animal) and cosmetics.

Washington, nonetheless, is headed in a diverse path.  The state’s Agriculture Division just clarified that hemp and CBD in meals or cosmetics is illegal below each state and federal law.

Speaking of hemp and CBDhow’s the FDA coming along with these regulations, you ask?  According to a former U.S. Surgeon Common, it is difficult.

In South Dakota news, the states’s Lawyer Common has released an explanation of the legalization proposal that proponents hope to see on the 2020 ballot.  Meanwhile, a hemp delivery truck driver was arrested for possession with intent to distribute.  Moral of the story: obey the speed limits in South Dakota if you are hauling hemp by means of the state.

In other hemp news, the National Credit Union Administration released guidance stating that credit unions are permitted to serve hemp companies.  The recommendations advised institutions to assure that organizations are state-legal.  (See South Dakota above.)

Social equity as applied to cannabis companies is a large concern.  Each and every state has a diverse track record as this chart shows.

One particular of the arguments in favor of marijuana legalization is that legal sales will bring in tax income.  Is that in fact accurate?  A short from the Pew Charitable Trusts says it is really hard to inform.

Andrew Yang is the most current entry in our “Where Do The Candidates Stand on Marijuana?” series. He has stated that he would concern a mass pardon for all federal prisoners convicted of non-violent marijuana-associated offenses.

And ultimately, we right here at The Week in Weed do not claim to be intellectual house specialists, but we’re fairly certain this U.K. organization is in some hot water.
