JACKSON, Miss. (AP)– A court battle threatens to obstruct a Mississippi medical marijuana program prior to the program even begins.
Citizens on Nov. 3 authorized a medical marijuana effort by a large margin– about 58%, according to accredited outcomes. The effort changes the state constitution, needing the Health Department to set policies and start the program by mid-2021.
Madison Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler opposed Effort 65 since it restricts cities’ capability to control the area of medical marijuana services. The Republican mayor took legal action against the state days prior to the election, arguing that the effort was not effectively on the tally since of the variety of signatures collected.
